Babu Bangladesh!

is Numair Atif Choudhury’s debut – and only – novel.

Although Choudhury began work on it in 2003-2004, the novel did not emerge onto the South Asian literary scene until June 2019. Shortly before his accidental death in 2018, Choudhury sent what would be the final draft to his publisher and it is possible that he would have revised the later chapters further had he been given the chance.

Babu Bangladesh! examines the temporal and geographic spaces that the protagonist, Babu Abdul Majumdar, inhabits. Through narrating Babu’s life, Choudhury chronicles the political history of Bangladesh from its conception to the present day (or rather until his demise in 2018).
