Scott Carpenter

Scott Carpenter is Professor of French at Carleton College (Minnesota, USA), where he teaches courses on the nineteenth- and twentieth-century French literature and literary theory. His research focuses on such authors as Charles Baudelaire, George Sand, Honoré de Balzac, and Prosper Mérimée. In addition to many articles, he has written several books, including Acts of Fiction (on political representations in nineteenth-century literature), Reading Lessons (an introduction to literary theory), Vagabondages littéraires (co-edited), an intermediate French reader, and most recently Aesthetics of Fraudulence in Nineteeth-Century France: Frauds, Hoaxes, and Counterfeits.
