Carl Olsen is a Lecturer in the Scandinavian Department at U.C. Berkeley. He filed his dissertation Ekphrasis and the Old Norse Shield Poem in December 2009. He regularly presents at the annual conference for the Society for the Advancement of Scandinavian Studies and was awarded the Leifur Eiriksson scholarship to pursue his dissertation research at the Arnamagnaean institute in Iceland. His research interests include Norse Mythology, Skaldic and Eddic Poetry, the Family Sagas, Old English literature, Intermedial theory, Scandinavian Folklore and Folkloristics, Swedish Romanticism, Science Fiction, and the intersection of Philology and Critical Theory.
