D. Litt (=PhD) in Latin Literature, Stellenbosch University, 2003. Published one book on the basis of the doctorate: Augustine's Confessions: Communicative Purpose and Audience, Brill 2004. Hve written a number of articles on Manichaeism in Augustine's Confessions, most recently on the Manichaean audience of books 1 to 3 in HTS Theological Studies 69 (2013) and "A Protreptic to a liminal Manichaean at the Centre of Augustine’s Confessions 4." In Augustine and Manichaean Christianity. Selected Papers from the First South African Conference on Augustine of Hippo. University of Pretoria, 24-26 April 2012, 107-135. Edited by J. van Oort. Leiden & Boston: Brill. 2013. Currently working on an article on the communicative purposes of fourth century BCE Greek autobiographical writing and in the process of completing an article on Protreptic for Religion in Antike und Christentum.
