Catherine Butler

Catherine Butler is a Mythopoeic Award-winning critic and the author of six fantasy novels for children and young adults, including Calypso Dreaming, The Fetch of Mardy Watt and Death of a Ghost (all published by HarperCollins).

Catherine teaches in the School of English, COmmunication and Philosophy at Cardiff University. As a critic, she is the author of Four British Fantasists (2006, Mythopoeic Scholarship Award); and Reading History in Children’s Books (2012, with Hallie O’Donovan), as well as numerous articles on the subject of fantasy, and has edited several critical collections, including Teaching Children’s Literature (2006), Roald Dahl (New Casebooks) (2012, with Ann Alston) and Modern Children's Literature (2nd Ed., 2014). She is Associate Editor of the Journal Children’s Literature in Education.
