Javier Marías was a major European writer and the author of fourteen novels (including Tu rostro mañana [Your Face Tomorrow], published in three volumes between 2002 and 2007), a number of short-story collections, and numerous books of essays and feature writing. All of these works have been translated into a total of forty-six languages and published in fifty-nine countries thus far (January 2026). He was also the king of the literary Kingdom of Redonda (Reino de Redonda in Spanish) and founded a publishing house bearing that name, with which imprint he commissioned translations and published forty-three titles (novels, short-story and poetry collections, travel writing, autobiographical works and essays, the last three of which were published posthumously) mostly by foreign authors, for which he had a particular predilection.
