Anne Rice has become the world's leading author of vampire fiction, her readership surpassing even that of Bram Stoker and his seminal vampire tale, Dracula (1897). Rice is best known for her “Vampire Chronicles”, immediately achieving fame with the first volume Interview with the Vampire (1976), and in The Vampire Lestat (1985) creating the first and most enduring vampire anti-hero in popular fiction. The Chronicles currently include ten full-length novels: the two already mentioned plus Queen of the Damned (1988), The Tale of the Body Thief (1992), Memnoch the Devil (1995), The Vampire Armand (1998), Merrick (2000), Blood and Gold (2001), Blackwood Farm (2002), and Blood Canticle (2003).
