David Hare

David Hare is one of the most productive and successful political playwrights to emerge in Britain in the postwar era. He has worked in both the radical fringe and the mainstream institutions, commercial and subsidised, and has successfully explored the grand themes of politics through a humane and truthful drama. Born on 5 June 1947, he grew up in Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, and was educated at Lancing College, where he met his friend, playwright Christopher Hampton. He read English at Jesus College, Cambridge, where he met playwright Tony Bicat.
