Blacksmith John Deere (7th February, 1804 - 17th May, 1886) introduced and manufactured the first plough with a steel blade in Illinois in 1837. It was a much more efficient tool than the ploughs with cast-iron blades that were in use, and became known as 'The Plow that Broke the Plains'.
