On 27th of March 1794 Congress passed the 'Act to Provide a Naval Armament' or 'Naval Act', authorizing the procuring and manning of six frigates to operate under the banner of the US Navy. The launch of the first three frigates in 1797, U.S.S.
United States, U.S.S.
Constellation, and U.S.S.
Constitution, established the US Navy as a viable military force.
