Austria-Hungary had sought a truce since the 28th October, after their decisive losses in the Battle of Vittorio Veneto. After diplomatic negotiations, the armistice was finally signed at Villa Giusti, ending warfare between Austria-Hungary and Italy. It was to take effect the next day.
