A peasants' revolt in Alsace, focused in Schlettstadt, demanded
economic and religious concessions, notably the extermination of
the Jews, whom they resented as usurers, the introductions of a
Jubilee year in which all debts would be cancelled, reductions in
clerical incomes and the abolition of auricular confession.
