Historical Context Note

The Battle of La Laguna (also known as the Battle of Aguere) was fought between the forces of Spanish conquistador De Lugo and the native Guanches in Tenerife. The victory of the conquering army secured the island for Spain, although guerrilla warfare continued until Sept. 1496.
