Joachim II, Elector of Brandenburg, converts to Protestantism.
When, later in the year, Duke George of Saxony dies and his
Lutheran younger brother Henry accedes to the duchy, northern
Germany becomes almost entirely Protestant: all the states except
Brunswick have adopted the Reformation.
