In the Holy Roman Empire, the Diet of Ratisbon meets with Emperor Charles V, who attempts to reconcile the conflicting religious sects in Germany. Pulled in both directions, he is forced to admit Protestants to the Imperial Chamber and also to renew the Catholic League of 1538.
