John Knox, who had been in exile in first Geneva and then
Frankfurt, returns to Scotland. On 10th May he preaches an
incendiary sermon at Perth, which incites the Protestant Lords of
the Congregation to rebellion. They seize Edinburgh and destroy
religious houses at Stirling, Scone and St. Andrews, and
subsequently approach Elizabeth I for aid against the regency of
Mary of Guise.
