Death of Michel de L'Hopital. He had served as Chancellor of France between 1559 and 1568, and during his time in the post, had attempted to enact an even-handed policy between the warring factions of Catholics and Huguenots. On his downfall in 1568, he retired to his estate at Vignay, where he died.
