Duke Albert of Bavaria dies, and the duchy passes to his son,
William V. The new duke will rule until 1598, when the problems
caused by his ecclesiastical and missionary spending, which has
left the Bavarian treasury much depleted, becomes too great and he
is forced to abdicate in favour of his own Maximilian.
