Maurice of Nassau, Stadtholder of the United Provinces, gains victory at the Battle of Nieuport. With an army including English volunteers led by Sir Francis Vere, he defeats the Spanish and Italian troops of Archduke Albert, Governor of the Spanish Netherlands.
