The English Parliament meets, sitting until 4th June. The Commons attacks monopolies, challenging the government since they form a central part of its income. Two monopolists, Sir Francis Mitchell and Sir Giles Mompesson, are impeached. The Commons also attempts to stand in support of the Protestant cause in the Thirty Years War: a Roman Catholic barrister called Floyd is branded, fined and imprisoned for speaking against the Elector Palatine and the Bohemian Protestants.
