The succession of the Duchy of Mantua comes under dispute when
the last of the Gonzaga line, Vincent II of Mantua, dies without
heirs. Although Charles Duke of Nevers claims the title, Holy Roman
Emperor Ferdinand II disputes this with the claim that the duchy is
an imperial fief.
