Historical Context Note

Infanta Isabella, co-sovereign of the Spanish Netherlands with her husband Albert of Austria, dies in Brussels. From now on, the Spanish Netherlands are governed directly from Spain. This decision provokes a rising in Brussels, but it is easily suppressed, and the States-General do not meet there again until after the French Revolution, in 1790.
