Anne, daughter of Peter the Great, dies and is succeeded by Ivan VI, grandson of Anne's sister Catherine. Ivan's mother acts as Regent, but power is in the hands of Count Münnich, who succeeds in banishing Ernst Biron, Duke of Courland, from Russia.
