Having secured the ambitions of the Spanish Bourbons in the
Italian duchies by the terms of the Peace of Aix-la-Chapelle,
Ferdinand VI of Spain now breaks off the Family Compact with France
which had been signed in 1743 to protect the two branches of the
Bourbon family.
