Britain and Prussia sign the Treaty of Westminster. By the terms
of this agreement, Frederick II guarantees the neutrality of
Hanover, a move designed to frustrate French attempts to seize
George II's German provinces. As a result of this treaty, France
and Austria move diplomatically closer to one another.
