British forces take the city of Masulipatam (in present-day Andra Pradesh) from the French. When British traders settled there in 1611, it was their first base on the Bay of Bengal, but since 1686 it has been in the possession of French and Dutch colonists.17739 British take Masulipatam 2 Historical context notes are intended to give basic and preliminary information on a topic.
