In Portugal, a 'General Extraordinary and Constituent Cortes of the Portuguese Nation' is summoned, in order to draft a new Constitution for the country. Under the new system, feudalism and the Inquisition are to be abolished, a single elective Chamber is to be established and the King is to have only a suspensory vote. These fundamental tenets are decreed on 9th May.
