Princess Luisa Fernanda, sister of Isabella II of Spain, marries Duc de Montpensier, youngest son of French King Louis Philippe. This marriage contravenes the agreement that had been made between Francois Guizot and Lord Aberdeen (British foreign minister) in 1843, in which Guizot had promised not to make marital alliances between the French and Spanish thrones. Anglo-French relations are threatened, and the Orléanist monarchy in France is weakened as a result.
