France and Germany sign the Peace of Frankfurt, ending the
Franco-Prussian War. By the terms of this agreement, France agrees
to cede Alsace-Lorraine, to pay an indemnity of 5 billion francs,
and to be subjected to an army of occupation until the payment is
completed.
