In the Treaty of Gastein, Germany and Austria agree to annul the clause they had both pledged to in the 1866 Peace of Prague, whereby they had promised to hold a plebiscite in North Schleswig to allow the population to choose whether to remain part of Germany or be partly returned to Denmark.
