U.S. troops, with a small force from 6 Caribbean countries, invaded Grenada on 21 October. After a few days of sporadic fighting, Grenadian militia and Cuban ‘construction workers’ were overcome. Thereafter, U.S. citizens were evacuated and the Grenadian Marxist regime deposed. The invasion was precipitated by the ostensible growing influence of Cuba. The military action was largely popular within the U.S but roundly criticized and condemned as war-mongering around the globe.
