On the 6th of April, 1830 Joseph Smith Jr. (23rd December, 1805
- 27th June, 1844) organised The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints during a meeting with a small group of believers.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (also popularly
referred to as the 'Mormon Church') was based on the Latter Day
Saint movement which Smith had founded after he claimed an angel
had appeared to him and revealed the location of a collection of
ancient writings, known as the
Book of Mormon
. Smith published
The Book of Mormon: An Account Written by the Hand of Mormon
upon Plates Taken from the Plates of Nephi
in March 1830.
