US President James Garfield (19th November, 1831 - 19th September, 1881), was shot just months into his presidency, on the 2nd of July, 1881. Following the shooting a bullet remained lodged in Garfield's body, leading to blood poisoning. He eventually died on the 19th of September, 1881, having served for only 200 days.
