Historical Context Note

The Jesuit order (whose is full title is 'The Society of Jesus') is confirmed by Pope Paul III in the bull Regimini militantis ecclesiae. The Jesuits will go on to play an important part in a counter-Reformation revival of Catholicism, as they inject a new spiritualism into this beleaguered faith.
