The first battle of the Frankish Civil War, it was fought between Ragenfrid (appointed Mayor of the Palace by Dagobert III, in opposition to Pepin’s choice as his successor, his grandson Theudoald) and Theudoald. The latter, then young, lost the battle and fled to Cologne, where his grandmother, Pepin’s widow Pectrude, lived.
