The Moscow Trials were a series of trials of political opponents of Joseph Stalin during the Great Purge. Many of the defendants were executed. The purpose of the trials was to eliminate any potential political challengers to Stalin's authority, especially Old Bolsheviks.7167 Moscow show trials begin 2 Historical context notes are intended to give basic and preliminary information on a topic.
