The English longbow - also known as the Welsh longbow, although in fact very similar bows were used across northern and western Europe - was the most effective weapon of the English armies during the late medieval period. It arguably reached the height of its development around 1330, and was a decisive factor in England's success against Scotland in the Battle of Halidon Hill (1333), and against the French at the Battle of Crecy in 1346.
