Scottish sources place the Battle of Otterburn on the 5 August 1388, however, ENglish sources disagree placing the battle on the 19 August 1388. The battle, part of the continuing border war between England and Scotland, was a victory for the Scots, led by James Douglas, 2nd Earl of Douglas, over Harry Hotspur, son of the Earl of Northumberland. Although a Scottish victory Douglas was killed in the battle.
