When Toni Morrisons seventh novel, Paradise, was published in 1998, this novelist was already among the most esteemed writers in the United States, having by then received the Nobel Prize for literature as well as many other major literary awards. In Paradise, the third novel in Morrisons series on love (her working title for the novel was War) she presents an imaginative recreation of historical events during the late Reconstruction era and the turn of the century post-Reconstruction era in the United States.
