Susan Cooper

Susan Cooper is a versatile writer of novels, screenplays and poetry. Her most celebrated work has been for children, in particular the five-book fantasy sequence The Dark Is Rising (1965-77), but she has written successfully in a wide variety of genres. Her work for adults includes a futuristic thriller, a literary biography, essays, lectures, and a substantial amount of journalism; while for children she has written picture books, chapter books, a semi-autobiographical novel, and four young adult fantasies, apart from the Dark Is Rising sequence itself. A Briton who has lived in the United States almost all her adult life, she is acknowledged on both sides of the Atlantic as a major fantasy writer.
