This study, its more general, theoretical and historical sections apart, includes chapters featuring four 'special authors': Daniil Kharms, Franz Kafka, Samuel Beckett and Flann O'Brien. The O'Brien chapter, entitled 'Flann O'Brien and the purloined absurd' (pp. 251-278), concentrates on the two major novels, At Swim Two Birds and The Third Policeman, while including also a more general O'Brien introductory section, under the title of 'The hydra-headed man'.
