Josie Billington

Dr Josie Billington is Reader in English Literature at the University of Liverpool. A Victorian literature specialist, her publications include Faithful Realism: Gaskell and Tolstoy (2002) and Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Shakespeare (Bloomsbury, 2012). She has edited the work of Margaret Oliphant (The Ladies Lindores, Taylor & Francis, 2016; Novellas, Pickering & Chatto, 2013), George Eliot (Scenes of Clerical Life, Oxford University Press, 2015), Elizabeth Barrett Browning (C21st Oxford Poets, Oxford University Press, 2015/2018), and Elizabeth Gaskell (Wives and Daughters, Pickering and Chatto, 2006). She has also published extensively on the power of literary reading to influence mental health, including Is Literature Healthy? (Oxford University Press, 2016) and (ed) Reading and Mental Health (Palgrave, 2019).
