Petra Rau

Petra Rau is Senior Lecturer in Modern Literature at the University of East Anglia. She also taught for the Open University and the University of Portsmouth. Her research interests lie in literature and film about war and fascism, and expulsion; Anglo-German relations; travel writing; and memory studies. She is the author of English Modernism, National Identity and the Germans, 1890-1950 (2009) and Our Nazis: Representations of Fascism in Contemporary Literature and Film (2013) as well as the editor of two essay collections on war writing, Conflict, Corporeality and Nationhood in Modern Literature (2010) and Long Shadows: The Second World War in British Fiction and Film (2016).
The daughter of German expellees, she is currently working on a book about expulsion and forced migration in postwar German literature and film as well as a book of creative non fiction about her family.
