David M. Ball is Assistant Professor of English at Dickinson College, where he teaches courses on American literature, history, and culture. His first book is the co-edited volume The Comics of Chris Ware: Drawing is a Way of Thinking (with Martha Kuhlman, UP of Mississippi, 2010) and his essays and reviews have appeared in Modern Fiction Studies, College Literature, ESQ: A Journal of the American Renaissance , and The Rise of the American Comics Artist: Creators and Contexts . He is currently completing a manuscript titled "False Starts: The Rhetoric of Failure and the Making of American Modernism" and can be found at http://blogs.dickinson.edu/balld/.
