Edward Donald Kennedy

Edward Donald Kennedy is Professor Emeritus of English and Comparative Literature at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has written, edited or co-edited six books including Chronicles and Other Historical Writing, vol. 8 of A Manual of the Writings in Middle English, gen. ed. A. E. Hartung (1989), King Arthur: A Casebook (1996), and, most recently, Short Scottish Prose Chronicles (2012). He was subject editor of most English and Scottish chronicles for The Encyclopedia of the Medieval Chronicle, gen. ed. Graeme Dunphy (2010). He has also written over 100 articles and reviews, most of which concern Arthurian literature or medieval chronicles. He was editor of Studies in Philology for twelve years (1997-2009) and remains on its editorial board as well as on the boards of Arthuriana and The Medieval Chronicle. He was chair of Comparative Literature at Chapel Hill for twelve years (1994-2006). His plenary papers and invited lectures include talks at the University of Munich (2), Pennsylvania State University, Hebrew University (Jerusalem), Keio University (Tokyo), Yonsei University (Seoul), Seoul National University, Georgia Perimeter College, the University of Virginia's College at Wise, Buffalo State College, Dartmouth College, and the first meeting of the International Medieval Chronicles Conference (1996) at Utrecht (NL). On his retirement, a special collection of essays in Arthuriana (23.4 [2012]) was published in his honor.
