John C. Ross

Born in Wellington, New Zealand, in 1938; studied at Wellington College, Victoria University of Wellington (BA, MA, in English), Birkbeck College, University of London (Ph.D.). Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in English, Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand, from 1973. Retired 2001. Honorary Research Fellow, from 2001. Numerous articles, books on 18th Century London printer Charles Ackers (1968, 1990); bibliographical histories of George Eliot (2003), and Harold Pinter (2005), (in collaboration with William Baker); The Lonely and the Alone: The Poetics of Isolation in New Zealand Fiction , in collaboration with Doreen D'Cruz (Rodopi, 2011). Critical editions of plays by William Congreve, George Farquhar and Thomas Shadwell. Forthcoming: a study of the 18th century London printer Samuel Palmer. A few poems and short stories published.
