Sarah Jones

I am a D.Phil student in French Literature at the University of Oxford. My doctoral research seeks to understand the nature of medical knowledge, authority and power in nineteenth-century literature via an examination of the doctor-patient encounter. I intend to demonstrate the importance of medicine by re-reading canonical texts from across the century in order to disrupt a narrative of increasingly objective and complete medical knowledge. I am currently a college lecturer at Oriel college, Oxford. I have presented papers at conferences in Oxford, London, Cambridge, Belfast, and Paris. I am co-convenor of a TORCH- and AHRC-funded conference on global and historical perspectives on the doctor-patient relationship. I am also co-convenor of the Oxford Early Career Academic Outreach Network.
