Davide Borghi was born in Reggio Emilia in 1973 to parents who had immigrated to the city from the Asta Valley (Val D’Asta) in the Reggio Emilia Apennines. In 1980, he moved with his parents and brother back to Val D’Asta, where his father constructed their family home and a carpentry workshop. Borghi embraced life in this mountainous region with its local traditions, forest animals, changing seasons, and opportunities for hikes to the top of Monte Cusna. At the age of fourteen he decided to attend a high school in Reggio Emilia where he could study chemistry and microbiology, but returned to his Apenninic home on weekends.
