Sara Sefchovich (1622 words)

Born in Mexico City on April 2, 1949, Sara Sefchovich is a Mexican sociologist, historian, writer and professor, currently at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Sefchovich stopped writing fiction over fifteen years ago because, as she has explained several times, the genre cannot account for the violent reality of Mexico. This decision very well exemplifies who Sefchovich is and why her work matters.
