Vigdís Grímsdóttir was born on 15 August 1953. She is an educated teacher with a BA degree in Icelandic and library science. In 1983, shortly after the second wave of feminism began in Iceland, her first book was published, a collection of short stories titled

[Ten Images from Your Life: Stories of Make-believe Dreams and Reality]. The stories address issues such as the position of women, domestic violence, power, and powerlessness related to women and children. The book was well-received, and it was clear from the beginning that a significant writer had entered the Icelandic literary scene. Since then, Vigdís has released an additional 20 books, primarily novels but also poetry collections and biographies.…
